Team Buying is one of the hottest crazes in China. For the full story on exactly what “Team Buying” is and how it works read this article on the Msn site: Team Buying
Personally I think this is a fantastic idea and I wouldn’t be suprised if this craze spreads to the UK and USA very soon.
But surely there must be some way of doing this in the online marketplace as well????
Imagine if there was a web site like Amazon where instead of buying the item you simply put you username besides the item(s) that you want to buy. Once a certain limit is reached a rep from the site contacts the store that sells said item and says that he has 100 people wishing to buy their 42″ Plasma screen. However, If they don’t reduce the price by 10% then they will simply move on to the next store and use the same tactic.
Such a site would take a fair bit of organising, but if done correctly I feel it would surely be a success. The only downside for the shopper is that they may have to wait a few weeks before some other people decide they want to buy the same product.
Another problem is that merchants are going to struggle to give a large % discount AND pay their affiliates their revenue from the sale as well.
I am sure this is not the last we will hear about Team buying.
