Your point about some great doers not being able to teach what they do because of their innate abilities is a good one. In fact, I believe that even if they have learned their skills rather than being born with them it's still difficult for many to teach. Can you imagine Rafa Nadal or Lee Westwood having to go back and teach the absolute basics to a beginner. They do so much on autopilot now they don't think about them and would find it difficult to take a beginner through those early phases. I remember a story I heard (via an ex player) about Ruud Gullit when he started coaching the Chelsea team. He was trying to get the players to be able to hit a pass that curled round a defender into the path of an onrushing teammate. Because he did things like that so instinctively, he just couldn't describe to them how to do it. "Just hit it to him" was all he could manage.
