The Results of the Test
In Buzz Marketing | 20 comments | permalink

Recently I showed you a test that involved a lady spinning round in a circle.
I have received 176 emails to date, and 36 blog comments…
The actual test was an optical illusion that can be seen as spinning either way, depending on how your brain interprets the image. In theory the lady is spinning both ways, but which way you see it depends on how your brain processes that data.
It is said that those who see it clockwise are using more of the right side of their brain, and those who see anti-clockwise are using the left.
So what does this mean?
Well, people who use the right side of their brain are often much more creative (and often un-structured/messy) and those who use the left side are often more analytical and organised.
I have a project coming soon that would benefit from a number of more creative thinkers. So those of you who answered either:
* Clockwise
or
* Both
Will be sent an email with more details. Those of you who answered “Anti-clockwise”, thanks for taking part. I really do appreciate it.
Thanks again everyone, your participation has as always has been amazing.
Dean
PS: If you are wondering, no matter how hard I try, I cannot get the woman to spin anti-clockwise, I have tried everything, but she always spins clockwise for me. The reverse is true for Elena.
Oh, and for info, I am very messy, and Elena is very tidy, so it matches perfectly.

Do You Feel the Buzz?
Dean Hunt puts the "buzz" in buzz marketing
..and the "viral" in viral diseases
Oh man! I see it clock wise but I answered anti clockwise. But I do mention I can choose to see it clockwise or anticlockwise. Am I qualified?
I do take many personality test and most of them said I’m more a right brainer .. I can sketch, draw and also visualize things rather that analyze them.
Anyways, if you want to see the woman to spin anti clockwise, try to focus on her shadow. Focus and you will see her spin the other way around..
Raimi - yes, you would qualify if you can make it go both ways.
Dean
Interesting. For the most part, after staring at her for a good 5 minutes or so, she was spinning clockwise, so that’s the answer I sent it. Who’d a thought I was creative? LOL. But for a few seconds there I swore she was spinning anticlockwise, but not for too long, as soon as i blinked she went back to spinning clockwise.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to the email Dean.
I was mesmorized by the breasts. They kept telling me to send malicious email to viral buzz marketing experts.
I did not follow thru though.
I did think that my answer about invisible killer bunnies was quite creative though for a left brain facts and figures kinda guy.
And I can make the lady go either way just by commanding her to do so. My guess is however you see it first is your dominant brain.
This test may be compromised if any readers are dyslexic when it comes to clockwise/counterclockwise.
I am that way when it come to borrow and lend. I say borrow when I am supposed to say lend…..
Wow, fascinating exercise!
I’ve been intrigued by the integration of right brain/left brain for a long time, and always knew I favored the right/creative side. But I also have a very strong left/analytical side…
So I’m baffled why I couldn’t see anything other than clockwise. In fact, I couldn’t even see how it was possible to see it anti-clockwise.
I’m definitely linking to your blog. Lots of great stuff here! Thanks, Dean.
Un-structured/messy?
Ha! You sound like my wife!
I bet she’s got a deeper voice.
That was a fun test
Ironically.. I can’t draw decent stick-figures.
But I’m good at logic
well i said in my answer that I can see her spinning both ways, one time clockwise, the other time anti-clockwie. The reason I chose to go with anti-clockwise was her shadow. I’ve got an explanation for it. =]
The lifted foot, that is the left one if she’s spinning anti-clockwise, and that’d be the right one if she’s spinning clockwise.
If its anti-clockwise, the shadow of the lifted foot makes more sense. When it comes towards us, the shadow goes out of screen.
Whereas if you see it as clockwise, the lifted foot’s shadow, when it comes towards us, its appearing on the screen, whereas i think when its towards us, it should not appear on the screen. You getting me?
dunno if I am correct, logically. Sounds right?
anyway does this count me in aswell? or am I only one of those who use left side of the brain?
Suleman, I knew there must be something about her shadow!
but I still don’t understand your analysis lol..
If you look intensly at her legs, you can see that she changes legs and therefore ‘direction’…she is moving/spinning/rotating in BOTH directions, that’s very clear to me…I am glad that I am not mesmerised by her breasts
Interesting test … I saw it both ways.
Fascinating
I somehow managed to see it now anticlockwise, and then again clockwise. Wtf…
you can count me dean
I can make her go both ways, so to speak… but I think those few of us who saw in her the Zen teaching that the only thing “moving” is our mind, should get a prize, too
God I LOVE to hear anyone say the following words:
Well, people who use the right side of their brain are often much more creative (and often un-structured/messy) and those who use the left side are often more analytical and organised.
That makes me not feel so guilty for my unstructured/messiness. No matter how hard I try., New Years Resolutions and everything….I cannot get organized. I cannot work until I have a pile of junk around me. I am surrounded by mess, but I truely believe I am creative….If everyone would just quit griping at me for being messy, I might get to think about being creative, and actually get some creative work done…
I think I will put a sign at my desk “No Left Brained People allowed anywhere near here”
well, in that case that means that I am messy AND tidy…wonder which part of me is more ‘dominating’?
Clockwise for me… If I have any problem, it is often being too creative… Then I’ll get on my horse and ride off in ALL directions…
When I stand on my head I can see her spin anti-clockwise!
I tried for about half an hour, and couldn’t get it to go counter. Is it even possible?
I saw her spinning clockwise from the get-go.
The poor gal must be real dizzy by now. Stop her pain, Dean. STOP HER PAIN.
