Say No To Pagerank, Yes to Life
In SEO | 73 comments | permalink
This is a war cry to all webmasters who have better things to do than to be listening to endless threads, blog posts and nonsense about the upcoming Google Pagerank Update.

******UPDATE****** - DUE TO GOOGLE RESTRICTIONS, FURTHER APPLICATIONS FOR THE PAGERANK LIST WILL NOT BE INCLUDED. APOLOGIES
It is that time of year again where all the SEO nerds will be on the edge of their seats waiting for the Google Pagerank update.
Frankly I hate this time of year, the forums are full of the same old threads, everyone predicts when the pr update will occur, then everyone complains that they didn’t get a fair deal.
Surely people have better things to do than spend hours in forums discussing a little green bar? Aren’t we all tired of this by now? We should just focus on improving our businesses and the rest will take care of itself.
So I am going to start a meme for a list of webmasters who prefer to get on with “real life” instead of dedicating all their spare time to the pagerank update.
If you feel the same way, then here is your chance to get hundreds of extra links to your site.
All you have to do is copy the info below, and put it into your site/blog. Then email me at : contact@deanhunt.com and I will update the list with your website/blog link.
As this spreads your site will be mentioned on hundreds, perhaps even thousands of sites.
Step 1: Highlight the links below, right click, then click “View selection source”
Step 2: Paste the “Say No To Pagerank” list into your blog or site
Step 3: email me at: contact@deanhunt.com
Step 4: Get a mention and link here at DeanHunt.com and every other site that plays the game
Step 5: Update your list daily to reflect the new websites and blogs that join in

And so here I am on the 22nd of July 2007 reading the last installment of the Harry Potter frachise and I recieve an email from Dean.
Somewhat surprised I believed it to have been Voldemort himself sending me more Viagra spam than “Avada Kedavra” has been used in the book.
Alas no, I received a request to destroy PageRank once and for ever. I joined the Order of Hunt and have portrayed my loyalty once again, by posting on http://www.cs-developer.com.
I wish for worldpiece and more inbound links then gold can by (Damn you Google) however accept anything that a kind sir can provide to http://www.southeastauto.com.au
Regards,
Jesse-Lee Stringer
Hi Dean,
Worldpeace please… small typo, guess killing people’s getting the better of my literacy skills
Nice to see someone who does not like PR.
Just like me.
But u dont support pagerank and offer backlinks for what?
For a higher PR right?
I’m confused now
Best Regards.
Keep this iniciatives
http://www.bitmovel.com http://www.gsmin.com
great article; it’s very true. Why talk about PR all day instead of working towards improving it…hit the nail on the head. I’m currently trying to SEO my site. Could you plz email me for any tips…so far I’m just submitting to as many pr2+ directories as possible.
I have updated my list, I couldn’t find the links on Iphoneforums.org though.
David: http://www.iphoneforums.org/say-no-to-pagerank-yes-to-life/
Streetlessons links are working now.
Many thanks,
Dean
Wheres the navigation to the links on the IPhone one I can’t see any links to the page.
Dave,
I have removed the iphone link from the list until they show me that it is linked from a main page or category page.
thanks,
Dean
I joined in, this is a cool idea!
If all these pages link together and to every other site which signs up, wouldn’t this end up adding your links on unrelated websites and web pages, with links to several other unrelated websites, which can lead to a penalty for these sites by Google maybe. Am a little confused here.
Interesting initiative. The PR madness can be catching, and can make us forget to focus on quality.
I am in!
SEO Reloaded - Google specifically says that you cannot harm ranking via inbound links.
Also, the vast majority of these links are somehow webmaster related, whether it be PHP, SEO, Marketing or blogging.
The pros far out way any cons here.
Would be great to see some more shopping type sites joining in….!
Hey Deano - We are not showing up in your list. I feel so abandoned :(.
Sorry mate, not sure what happened.
By the way, I cannot load your site.
Dean
Just updated my post to add the new entries!
Great campaign idea.
“Don’t just fight the fights you can win… Fight the fights that need fighting!”
Keep blogging it!
Just a reminder to everyone to update their lists. I WILL be checking.
I’m updated with the new entries.
Nice link swapping huh, definitely a go along for the next Google update after this.
There is one teeny tiny set back here: each webmaster has to return to this webpage to copy off the updated list therefore time is of great concern here Mr Dean.
For Argument sake, if 10 - 20 webmasters join up each day for the next six months, how often should I refresh the list on my blog?
Once a day, once a week or once a month?
And by the way is there a do follow tag for PR juice to participating webmasters?
Is it O.K for participating webmasters to add the no follow tag to their anchor link?
And the $64,000.00 take all the money home question:
Mr Hunt are you totally, honestly, true integrity sure that this is not a clever linkbaiting strategy devolved by a few over devoted seo webmasters?
Anyway,I Will ad the list this instant over at http://search4article.com/review/say-no-to-pagerank
Hope this list thingy catch on like a wild firestorm.
Great questions!
I will try and answer them all:
Ref returning to update… this is a small price to pay. However, once or twice a week would be acceptable. So perhaps 2 mins of your time for potentially hundreds of links.
Any blog using the NO FOLLOW tags will be removed and banned from the site. The comments section can be no-follow, but not the list itself.
Clever link baiting strategy? I am good, but surely I am not that good
Speak soon.
Dean
Dean, you have a fantastic idea going here and I am glad that I could take part! Best of luck

I’ve been updating my list daily, sometimes twice a day. The interesting thing is that my blog went from Authority 2 to Authority 23 on Technorati since I posted this list! Awesome idea!!
Mary,
That is great news. Glad I could help.
Here is to reaching Technorati 100
By the way Dean, only one deggeh, deggeh measly favour, in order to make me look spunky in the search engines I would love the text between my anchor tags to as “Ezinet Global Marketing” instead of Search4Article.com as I have been littering the internet with that anchor title tag like the Devil knows no better.
And now to the bashment filled exciting news:
This f@#$king meme thingy web marketing strategy is mad, sick, crazy to the brim. The results so far are thus extremely outstanding, not only have my Technorati popularity improved dramatically overnight but I have made leaps and bounds in the ranking category, now improving my ratings with all them “paid to” linkking and review sites out there (actually I sold 6 inline content ads due the improved standing.
Dean Hunt for GOD GENIUS ELECT anyone? this shit is working wonders (yeah Dean I saw your FlagShit Promo, more on that later)
I can only perceive one drawback though, THE GODDAMN LAZY WEBMASTERS around town who get excited at the idea at first, jump in, leaving their pants behind, splash around for a while, then all of a sudden they are no longer interested, abandon the Project (forgeting to update their listing with some reasonable frequency and might just end up causing this fantastic technique to stumble around a bit)
Oh shaking shimmereens!! Hey guys it just hit me, how about all of us on this ‘ere list take this to the StumbleUpon Social Network?
All that is required is for each of us to stumble the websites on the list, therefore putting them out there for our respective networks to vote and give the thumbs through the StumbleUpon Network.
If I’m counting my marbles right then this will definite add up to a perfect 10 producing exponential benefits for all participating webmasters here.
As a matter of fact I am now updating my blog with today’s changes as my commitment to this program.
Keep the brilliace glowing Dean.
Ezinet - Congrats on posting what could be the greatest blog comment I have ever read!
Ok, I will attempt to answer your points…
“I would love the text between my anchor tags to as “Ezinet Global Marketing†instead of Search4Article.com”
Your wish is my command. Done!
Ref your technorati and other successes. Congrats. Glad I could help. I am sure everyone who doesn’t get involved in this thing will regret it.
“Dean Hunt for GOD GENIUS ELECT anyone?”
Very kind of you… I would settle for president.
Ref the updating of the lists… listen, in a few weeks this thing will start to cool off. So updating for months is not going to be required. However, I am monitoring it at the moment and will be contacting people to make sure they update.
Ref Stumbleupon… great idea. But someone beat you to it: http://www.stumbleupon.com/url/deanhunt.com/say-no-to-pagerank-yes-to-life/
I agree though, it could really help. So everyone please follow the link and add your stumble.
Thanks for the comment.
Dean
PS: what is your real name?
I’ve just updated the CS-Developer.com website.
Unfortunately I’d forgotten to update, props to Dean for reminding me.
Otherwise it’s up and running
Dean,
Great viral marketing idea! Added list yesterday. Please add my fundraising ideas blog next cycle.

Hi dean, I just joining today, here is my link
http://www.dott-com.com/life-your-link-not-the-pagerank/
Thanks
Just tested the time it took to open two windows, highlight, copy and paste the list and came out tops at 1min:45sec! while watching my favorite soap CSI Miami, not missing a moment of intrigue.
C’mon get the refreshed list on your site and let’s see if we can surpass all human limitations and have this buzzing for 6 months at least, heck! people here might end up breaking all sorts of top 1000 records with a 2 - 5 minute a day approach.
Reality Wired is updated with the current listings.
http://www.realitywired.com/2007/07/23/just-say-no-to-pagerank/
Thanks everyone
add me on this blog chain!!
Great idea to help each other with some link love.
So you are not a big fan of Page Rank… Then why bother with all the links… This seems like a crazy form of “link bait” to me. How will Google react if your website goes from a few links per day or week to hundreds or thousands of links overnight? Could you not be endangering all who sign up?
As for me… I go for 5 links a day every three to four days… Slow and steady just like Google outlined in its patent application…
Hey Dean,
Could I request a little change on the listing? The link is fine but I want the anchor text to read “The Coding Pad”, as opposed to just CodingPad as it is now.
Thanks much!! Let’s keep this going!
add me please, here is the link to what i posted
http://thekingkongblog.com/2007/07/19/start-up-blogging-for-monkeys-pt-2/
Hi Dean
I’ve joined the train. Here’s my link
http://www.ahmadaffzan.com/2007/07/27/get-a-life-not-just-a-good-pagerank/
Thanks to all for this great meme
Mary - no problem, I will edit it now.
Mahdi - Will add you v.soon
geeurbie - I never said I was against Pagerank, you should re-read… I said I was against people who talk about pagerank all day without doing anything pro-active about it.
Currently we are averaging about 5-6 new links per day, so it fits your criteria perfectly.
Just so you dont think I’m just trying to get my name out there, I’ll leave no url just yet.
I currently own and run a hosting company and an online e-commerce company and was thinking about jumping on this. However, I dont want to “ruin” the professional image of the websites by adding all these links. Any suggestions?
Dean and geerubie - I quote here what I wrote on my blog about this “Now, this is interesting. It’s a movement couched in an anti-movement that basically achieves the same effect.”
Thanks Dean. Always ingenious. Always fun.
Hi Dean
I would like to join the list if possible.
heres my post
http://www.gadgettastic.com/2007/07/27/google-page-rank-upadte-coming-soon/
Hey Dean, This list is becoming a potent force to reckon with as there has been a way of so called “link trains” now fluttering across the lenght and breadth of cyberworld.
Every blog and forum master suddenly has a lightening jolt of realisation that this kind of technique can do wonders for the status of your blog (right my blog is about to crack the technorati top 100,000) and therefore most blog forums are waking up just in time to catch the train and riding the wheels to success and recognition.
There is one drawback though and we’ll all be around long enough to get a first hand view of what’s gonna happen next as there are always haters in the playing field.
For someone with no page rank, this is a perfect solution!
This sounds like a plan to me. Brilliant! I hope it starts a pager rank revolution. Just a quick and simple way to get busy while building cyber-community.
I wished I’d added my link a week ago! Always a bit slow on the uptake.
Hi Dean,
I have posted the list on my site.
Please add me on the list.
Here: http://www.degadget.com/miscellaneous/google-pagerank-update-coming-soon-but-i-am-too-busy
What time do you update?
Pagerank is bullshit, it sucks.. it is a nonsense idea being propagated by google, jst to keep the webmasters taking about them all the time. This nonsense has to stop. Let us start by removing the google toolbar from our browsers first.
I hav removed my google toolbar. I check the value of a site/page using the link and linkdomain command in yahoo.
link:http://www.sitename.com -sitename.com
That tells you the whole story. Why rely on a stupid system like pagerank to decide the importance level of a page. A system that takes more than three long months to even update itself. A system that is flawed and outdated.
PR is nonsense, don’t use PR to decide how good a site it. Remove your Google Toolbar or disable PR in the GTB today!
Hey Dean,
After reading the post a few times; I finally got it. We’ve added a page and the links. Should’ve don’t this before.
GREAT JOB; love the articles.
lol. Pretend you say no to PR and right before a PR update you’re going on a linking campaign? Yeah right.
The most amusing thing is, some clueless people actually buy this:)
haha, don’t you just love it when people try to be a smart arse and end up looking more clueless than the people they are mocking
Ozh - I will make it as simple as possible for you, hopefully this time you will understand.
This is NOT against pr, it is against people taking about PR all day and doing nothing pro-active about it.
Like you said, some people are clueless
Great idea! Count me in (email in your Inbox)…
It would be nice if you had target=”_blank” in the links list, though.
I’m in!
This is definately working I made it to number one on Technorati yesterday, here’s the proof
http://www.gadgettastic.com/2007/08/04/gadgettastic-ranked-number-1-on-technorati/
Seriously though this has been a great idea and I am glad I joined in.
Great Idea - I’ve joined up as well
You can definitely add me to the bandwagon here on flipping Google’s PR the middle finger. You might even enjoy the following post:

This is definately working I made it to number one on Technorati yesterday, here’s the proof
http://www.gadgettastic.com/2007/08/04/gadgettastic-ranked-number-1-on-technorati/
*****************************************************
Actually technorati was doing an overall of their datacenters and revamping their webpages while in the meantime a glitch occured causing quite a few websites to show up in the number one spot but anyways a smart and savvy marketer would have known the ins and out of how to capitalise on this little twitch in the system but alas quite a few of whom the number one spot were bestowed upon actually made it to the party early and got the benefit of a prestigious number one spot on the internet’s number one blog search engine by doing a screen captcha to show as proof for potential lucrative contracts.
Achieving a number one position even by default can carry you a long way in making money online, your number one position as long as you can show proof you had it for a day (even from a glitch in the technorati system) is somewhat quite buzz worthy and a great ingredient for an affiliate marketer’s resume.
OK, good. I’m glad we can be interested in what the pagerank shows and still participate. I noticed the topic come up in a forum and was like, “???” Shouldn’t you worry more about content than whining about PR?
I was starting to wonder with all your commenters claiming hypocrisy…I went back and reread the post to see if I could figure out where you said you were against page rank. And couldn’t. So I was heartened to see your explanation/confirmation that I can indeed read.
Question, though…should I choose to participate and begin updating this list continually, won’t it keep popping up in my feed, annoying the bejeegers out of my subscribers?
Ok, I am updating the list now. Please all do the same.
wanna join but need this page rank
All right, I’m in! I added a new page to my site with the list. Would you add me to the list, please?
Thanks!
Dean,
I had no idea that there was a new PR system on the way thanks for the explaining.
Good stuff.
I don’t know how this is working for everyone else but it’s working great for me! :). Right now my Technorati Authority is 92, and my predicted pagerank is 4 (using the iwebtools pagerank predictor (http://www.iwebtool.com/pagerank_prediction).
Hopefully everyone else is seeing good results and will keep their list updated so that we can all benefit more.
Thanks again Dean!
Please add me to this game. I have sent you an email.
Thanks!
How often is this list updated? I’ve had it on my website over a week now and have yet to be added to the list on here.
If this list is no longer updated, does anyone know of another list similar to this?
I wish it wasn’t but Search Engine Optomization (SEO),
is a part of a webmasters life. SEO is the daily battle
to keep ahead of the search engines, especially Google.
It is very much like a Salmon swimming upstream. Every 3
months Google changes everything in the way they do
things as far a their search results go (SERP). That only
means I have to throw out the window at least 1/3 of the
things I was doing to get their attention. One thing that
always works is back links from other web sites. Up at
the top of the comment section here there is a place for
your Name and Your Website. That is there in case people
would like to go to see what you are all about. On any
other web site that link would also count as a backlink if
Google ever came over here and spotted it. Google insists
that blogs have a word called “NOFOLLOW” in their code so
it knows not to count that address as a back link. So I
looked around and found a little piece of software that
defeats the NOFOLLOW code under the Name. It is a Word
Press Plug In that you install in your wp-content/plugin
directory and just activate in your plug in admin site.
Easy and fast. To get this for yourself just go to the web
site under my name and look for the nofollow button and
download and unzip the code. Don’t forget that if a person
gets a link he is more liable to come back and make more
comments. The more comments you get the more people Google
will send. Have fun. Bob
hi,
well finally a bit relaxed after reading this post,as i was also waiting for pr update which didn’t happen to me.Anyways thanxs a lot for this great post.
cheers

Dean, please update with my blog’s info:

My pagerank wad been updated twice since 10/07.
I had a pagerank 4 to my blogspot domain.
6 other blogs of mine got pagerank 2 at january pagerank update.
My new custom domain has not been ranked since it is new. (2/08)

page rank is only 1 of over 100 factors that determine your ranking folks. In my niche, make money online for instance the number one position is only pr4. Someone else who has more links, more keywords targeted and pr6 is on the 6th page of google for same keyword phrase.
I’ve had my blog going for over 6 months yet still have no PR rating.
I’m not sure what’s going on.
I had no idea that there was a new PR system on the way thanks for the explaining.
Good stuff.
Thanks.
