Pimp Yourself

This is an important question, so if you are reading this, then please make the effort to reply, or I will put a curse on you. ;-)

Here is the question:

If you could improve one area/skill related to net business, if you could just wake up and be brilliant at it, if you could just eat a little blue pill and be good at this skill, what skill would you choose?

Here are some possible options, but feel free to choose one of your own:

SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)

PPC (Google adwords etc)

Web design (Designing sites/templates etc)

Web development (Coding, developing backend systems etc)

Blackhat (spamming, and related naughtiness)

Buzz Marketing (How to get tons of traffic for free)

Net Marketing (Promotion techniques)

Copywriting (The art of creating content that sells/compels people to read)

Networking (How to be a master networker)

Other (Please specify)

Think about it, what would really improve your business? What would be the most valuable? Or, what have you always wanted to know?

Leave your answer, or I will put a hex on you.

    I can’t be doing with another hex…
Please Dean, I’d like to be fantastic at Buzz Marketing and I’d also like to be good at the dark arts of Blackhat – not that I’d ever use them!

Who started SEO? Search Ad agencies? I honest have not seen any real value with SEO (not yet), PPC, seen good results with them but for a price.

But I have seen results via Buzz Marketing; including non-internet related projects. So Dean; save me from the hex; BUZZ Marketing!

Which one of these skills will have women standing in line to throw themselves at me.

I don’t know what category it is but I would like to be the absolute Ruler of the Universe as far as conversion is concerned.

Keith – SEO wasn’t invented as such, it was a by product of search engines existing. Without SEO the search engines simply wouldn’t work.

Your site will NOT see good results yet because:

    a) You are a new site
    b) Your are in a hugely competitive industry
    c) You have done no SEO work

For those in the know, it can bring thousands of extra daily readers.

I did some SEO work on a celeb site earlier in the year, and within 3 weeks it went from 40,000 uniques per month to 250,000

    210,000 extra visitors per month.

    Not bad heh?

Thanks for your comments guys and gals. The hex will not be placed on you.

Chuck – If it is women yee wish to seek, then copywriting be the skill for yee.

Let’s get down with some more on buzz marketing.

On a side note (and a shameless self-promo plug), I posted a really boring video on my blog about using SEO techniques within buzz marketing posts.

They’re really stupid and boring tips (plus I sound like the nasally Midwestern wanker that I am), but 4 of the 5 posts I tried them on landed on the front page of Google within an hour, most of them with two spots in the top 10.

Anywho, if your readers want boring SEO tips that they can learn in under three minutes, point them here:

And yes, the website sucks bigtime. It’s a really lame PR2 piece of crap and it has only a month’s worth of blog posts, so it’s not like it’s some PR7 guru guy telling you how to use SEO techniques to get on the front page of Google!

Disclaimer: I actually have no idea why these simple techniques work so well, but they really do.

However, I do have a bunch of other really good websites where I’ve used these and other techniques to make a full-time living online since 2002.

This one will eventually become a website traffic membership site after I hire some trained monkeys to stop writing Shakespeare knockoffs and get them started with whipping up a site redesign. According to chaos theory, it shouldn’t take them more than five years to create a masterpiece…

Awwwwr… The SEO godfather hath spoken. :D

I’d like to be good at setting up “beta” stuff that finds its way into the user’s habits. Plus, if that spares me from some additional curses, I’d like to be good at verbally justifying why the heck I did something in exactly _that_ way. That be it.

    Threatening works. Definitely.

    oy… no hexes please

I will take a healthy dose of
Web development (Coding, developing backend systems etc)

    and add to it some
    SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)

Seriously, I would love to be a guru at all the above listed, but these two would be my top priorities.
