PC Gone Mad part two

Regular readers of my site will know that I am not a big fan of political correctness
There is a fine line between political correctness that helps people and just plain stupidity! In my opinion we are so far past the “plain stupid” line that we are now approaching complete insanity.
As often is the case, the march towards stupidity is being led by our good friends across the pond.
So before I go any further I would like you to see the following clip from the Emmys from the other night: EMMY CLIP
As a big fan of Conan O`Brien I really enjoyed the parody. I also know that shows like House, Lost, 24 & The office are his favourite shows. (I am sad I know)
The parody was probably filmed weeks if not months before it was aired, but NBC have had to issue an apology because the clip was shown on the same day as the plane crash in Lexington.
Now don’t get me wrong, I was sickened when I heard about the crash, but why should NBC have to apologise for showing a clip that happened to be a spoof of Lost?
The clip has absolutely nothing to do with the crash. Should any network that happened to show a repeat of a Lost episode that day also have to apologise? what about any internet travel site that happened to advertise on that day?
There was also a clip of the Office in that spoof as well, why not apologise to all the people who had a bad day in an office that day? There was a good spoof of 24 as well, why not apologise to any terrorists that may have been offended?
What is going wrong with the world? why do we bury our heads in the sand when something bad happens?
There also seems to be some sort of un-written rule for time sensitivity for jokes, spoofs, films etc…..
I often hear the phrase “That was too soon”, basically meaning that the joke was offensive, but if you wait a few months it will be hilarious. What’s that all about?
Does this mean I can make a joke about Katrina today and people will laugh, but if I had made it a year ago I would have been sued?
Imagine if all laws were like that…. You can rob a bank, but only if the bank is showing record profits. Or, you can murder someone, but only once they have won the lottery.
It is crazy and whoever complained to NBC clearly has too much time on their hands.
Let me know if you agree or disagree with me. If you disagree then I will wait 3 months to respond and by then you will agree
Adios
