Negativity Vampires

negativity vampires

Lock your doors, close your windows and be afraid, be very afraid… the negativity vampires are all around you, and if you are not careful, they can damage your life and career.

Skip straight to the video at the bottom of this post if you are in a rush, or keep reading for more details.

I have had a lot of experience with negativity vampires (or, energy vampires), I find them on Facebook, forums, Youtube, in my neighborhood, in Madrid… everywhere…

I am sure you know of at least one vampire… someone who is always complaining, whining, bitching and being negative. They are the sort of people that try and talk you out of big ideas, they say it can’t be done, won’t work etc…

Here is the thing…

Ignoring them is not enough… you see, by even allowing them into your life, you are going to be affected by them subconsciously, often, you will find that your energy for the rest of the day vanishes, and are left wondering if you have a cold or something.

The reality is that it is these negativity vampires draining your energy without you even knowing.

I am now at the point where even family members can be cut from my life if they are consistently negative, it just is too damaging to risk.

So watch the vid below, and remember, if you can’t think of any vampires in your life, then it is possible that you are the vampire ;-)

Sweet dreams.

    Thanks Dean.
You know the most dangerous vampire? the one who sucks the life out of you but then is just nice enough that we let our guards down and allow them back in our lives. You know, the one that makes you feel bad for being to harsh, or too judgmental to cut them out of your lives in the first place?

I recently had an experience with an ebay buyer who was very nasty to me, so i proceeded to block him. I’ve now received 3 emails saying that we were far too harsh and that we show a complete lack of professionalism by blocking him. That he never was going to actually harm our reputation (so in essence, he just wanted to complain). But you know what? I’m done feeling bad. Everytime i see an email from this person i literally cringe, and why should i put myself through that? I value myself more than that.

    Thanks again dean :)

Oddly enough I’ve just printed off a list of anti-negativity to-dos for my parents to read and memorise.

I’ll send it by post, so they don’t have the opportunity to suck the life out of me ;-)

Excellent post and video Mr Hunt.
I won’t mention the Charity Shield!

    Cool new videos Dean…

And important point about the negativity vampires. I know there’s been a few people I’ve cut out of my life that I’m very happy about. My only regret is I didn’t cut some of them out sooner!

It’s amazing how important our mind is to success and that everything that goes into it must be closely monitored. I firmly believe a few small changes in this area can make the difference between reaching our dreams or wasting our lives away.

Ok I had to look up whinge, but now I have expanded my vocabulary and enjoyed a great post.

A great man once said you can complain about the obstacles life puts in front of you and gain some sympathy or you can overcome those obstacles and earn respect.

Craig, EXACTLY, and ongratulations… it goes against everything we are told to do… we are told it is socially unacceptable, or rude… the reality is far different, it takes a bit of getting used to though.

    Julia,

Thanks for your comment… I have to say, your comments echoed my own when a mentor first taught this to me… it went against everything I considered decent.

Then, I had a vampire in my life for 5 years, and it was horrific, nearly destroyed lives, nearly tore apart an entire family and lots more besides.

Your diversity and fun comment is way off the mark though, I have friends all over the world, from Arabs to Spanish, all sorts of people across America and numerous European countries, all have different views, and I get on perfectly well with all of them… it is more a case of ANY person that consistently bombards you with negativity, regardless of where they are from.

As for the fight of life, again, way off the mark, I push boundaries to a great extent, whether it be moving to countries and cultures where I dont speak the language or know a single person, riding through India for weeks to raise money for struggling children… I dare say I have vastly more fun, diversity and challenge than most people.

Anyway, all comments are welcomed, so thanks for your input.

I agree! A few years ago I set up my own small business. Even friends were negative and didn’t think it would work for a number of reasons. I wanted it enough, and was lucky to have a sister who encouraged me to go for it – and it worked! My advise to anyone would be like yours – to surround yourself with like-minded, positive people. And pleased to have found your blog. Even the most positive amongst us need a reminder now and then!

    Hi Dean,
I just opened up my business (to blog and have a web site under construction) and had my first client as you describe above, it lasted 6 weeks and I learned a lot, and what not to do next time round…it was a good lesson for me!

I confess that I am very behind on my reading and wanted to thank you for your report on national days, as I live in the Caribbean, the dates are very useful. Just like when I worked on the special editions in my past newspaper reporting job…I had forgotten this point, thanks!

Well, I can certainly understand wanting to have people around you who are supportive, and I do believe that in most cases, it’s better to be positive than negative… but there are many cases where one should be careful about closing their ears to what may be negative but is STILL the truth. Sometimes it’s more damaging to surround yourselves with sycophants, false “yes” people who will tell you only what you want to hear, rather than what you need to hear. Example? If you have someone who’s embezzling your company, or who is vengeful and defaming you (as opposed to just petty gossip), or you’re losing money in a bad deal ala Bernie Madoff, isn’t it better to be INFORMED so you can take action, rather than having everyone blowing smoke up your skirt and feeding you lines while you continue on a collision course and then having all those ‘positive’ people disappear when you need them most?
