Life Bombing With Google

As you all know, a lot of changes have occured in my life recently, and I find myself in a new country, making new friends, joining new clubs, and going to new places.

As a wacky experiment, I decided to create a technique that initially I called authority site exploiting.

Now, I have been secretly playing with this, and today I have some amazing results to show you.

You may know that the previous blog post was about my upcoming trip to watch Muse play a live gig at Marlay Park in Dublin. You may also have wondered why on earth I would even bother sharing such details with you at DeanHunt.com

Here is where it gets exciting….

I have developed a technique that I am now going to call “Life Bombing”. It is essentially the art of getting rankings on Google for terms that affect your social life, and are NOT related to business, or making money.

For example, I could write about my golf club and try and get high rankings for the name of my golf club in Google. I could write about my town, I could write about my broadband provider, or the Premier banking account I have been given by my bank…

So why on earth would I bother doing this?

Two reasons:

1) Networking
2) Power

You see, when I write about my golf club, there is a strong chance that other club members will one day read it, and they may wish to contact me, perhaps they may want to take me for a game, or discuss business with me.

When I write about an upcoming rock concert, perhaps the band will find the article via Google, perhaps the management team will read it, perhaps other fans will contact me and arrange to have a beer.

It sounds unlikely, but I will show you some proof.

muse google

Yesterday I posted the Muse Dublin gig blog post, and just 24 hours later I am already dominating a lot of top rankings for related terms.

What’s more, I am getting regular traffic from them:

muse dublin marlay park

That screenshot was from a one hour period.

So again, you still may be thinking, Dean, what’s the point?

For a start, it is a traffic boost… secondly, it puts me out there to people who share my interests… for me, this is as powerful if not MORE powerful than what I can achieve via facebook.

Thirdly, it gives me power… afterall, there may be people looking for tickets, looking to sell their tickets, there may be marketing fans who are going to the gig and want to speak to me.

It also gives me an element of power… as we all know, people with top google rankings get authority by default.

So I could have control over my golf club, my gym, my local restaurants, my bank, my broadband provider, my mechanic and so forth.

I am not saying I would exploit this in the way you may be thinking, that afterall would be blackmail… but I could in the future start to collect leads, put affiliate links, sell ad space etc…

But for now, I am using this as a social tool, a way of life bombing myself into my new social and professional surroundings.

Ha, awesome. Came across this from Twitter. You could maliciously life bomb your enemies too, but that would be mean.

    Hmmmm…

Pretty damn interesting if you ask me.

Basically, you’re getting rankings and getting in touch with people that would probably NEVER landed on your website otherwise. Broadens your network, your reach, your appeal, and immediately forms a bond w/ these people because you already have something in common.

Nice work Dean. By the way… when you heading back over to the U.S.? If you’re ever up in the Pacific NW… hit me up… love to catch a round of golf and a brewski or two.

    Chat soon,

    - Trevor

Well, that sounds like fun. I can be king of search here in the cornfields of Illinois. Thanks for the great idea, Dean!

I put up a couple of quick posts of local flavor after reading Dean’s post earlier today. Lo and behold, sometime in the past 7 hours Googlebot stopped by and put them high up in the index. Ho-hum to a problogger, but a Cloud 9 high for yours truly.

    Ahh Dean,

An age old technique, but a good one.

Sadly only works for someone who is in your position of “Google Powerrrrr!!!” I belive..

My God, my job is so horifically boring.

    Dean –
If a bomb goes off in the forest and nobody runs into your shelter, should you drop another one?

What I’m asking is — can you tell us what happened with all that traffic, Dean? Did real prospects shake out of the traffic and convert to subscribers or new clents?

Do please tell us if your strategy led to a fun night at the pubs – - – oh and not too much detail, mind you.

    Cheers — Joanne

Frankly, it seems fantastic strategy for traffic boosting.

Although, it’s a matter of tweaking and tracking as at the end of the day the thing that matters most is how much traffic could be converted.

    Thom,

Yes, I certainly have an advantage, but I would say that for such niche based keywords, it doesn’t take much more than a blog and pr3+ to get the rankings.

Joanne, I didn’t put any call to action in place, but I can tell you that the traffic was excellent in quality and quantity, and next time I will collect the leads for sure.
