I Have a Huge Woody

In the UK we have a saying that is: “My ears have been burning.” This is often used when someone falls asleep on the toaster… just joking, it is used when you believe someone has been talking about you behind your back. (In a positive way)

It would seem that my ears have been well and truly scorched this past week.
I was discussed by a legend who goes by the name of Woody Maxim and he runs the site Woody Maxim.com.

So why am I mentioning Woody?

Well, firstly because he tipped me up as a future marketing star in this blog post: Buzz Marketing Post. Note to readers: flattery WILL get you everywhere with me.

Also,  I believe we share a similar “edgy” marketing style.

I think part of the reason we both have styles that make us stand out from the crowd is the fact that we both started out in two of the hardest industries on the net. (I will give you 3 guesses which one he worked in, I worked in the gambling industry initially)

This is actually something I would recommend to any new webmaster. Do not be afraid of the mega industries and mega competition. If you can succeed in those industries, then you can succeed anywhere!

Also, it will take more than a PPC budget to make money in those industries, you will need to find new and creative ways of being noticed, and I believe that is a priceless skill to learn.

There are many parents who teach their children how to swim by throwing them in at the deep end (literally), and the same can be done online.

All you hear these days is “niche” this and “niche” that. Well guess what… being a small fish in a mega 600lb gorilla of an industry can be hugely profitable as well.

I have been out of the gambling industry for over a year, yet I still get regular emails from advertisers wanting to throw some of their monster budgets at me. Can you believe that? They contact me. You wouldn’t get that selling black widgets in Texas.

Anyway, where was I?

Ah yes… I have a huge Woody… Listen, I have NEVER promoted another marketer here at DeanHunt.com…  but I just had to mention my new buddy Woody (that rhymes).

Thanks for the kind words Woody, I am sure we will meet one day, and if there is a god, he will surely weep a little and marvel at what he has created.
