How To Kickass And Take No Prisoners in 2009

kick ass

A wise man once told me that life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you deal with it.

For me, that is true in business as well.

I am going to demonstrate this right now, with a live example, and if you follow along, you could make 2009 your best year ever.

Step One: Find Your Dream

This sounds a bit new-age, but bear with me…

What you do is simply find the thing that excites you the most, the thing that you think of when you day dream.

For me, it is a Ferrari 360 Spider Supercar.

Step Two: Get Specific

Your fantasy might be to retire, to own a supercar, to go on a world cruise, to buy a home in Vegas, to sleep with Angelina Jolie…

But here is the key, you have to be specific.

If you want to go on a World Cruise, what day will you leave? Who will go with you? What company will you book with? How much spending money will you want?

If you want to retire, how much will you want in the bank? Will you want vacations as well? etc…

For me, I have narrowed down my choice of Supercar to a Ferrari 360 Spider. But that is not enough, you see, I want THIS one:

ferrari 360 spider

I have even photo-shopped out the vehicle registration number, simply because that is the ACTUAL car I want.

So I know the exact price, and I even put the license plate into my insurance company’s website to find out how much it will cost me in insurance.

Step Three: When you have found your exact dream, you need to get that dream in image format.

If you want to retire, perhaps get a photo of you playing with your kids, or a photo of the exact cruise ship you plan to travel the world in.

Important: The photo must be an exact representation, not a generic reminder.

Print out your photo or image, and then place it somewhere where you can see it constantly whilst you work.

For me, I have it on my Mac desktop.

Look again at the car photo, and you will see that it is on my desktop.

If you are a taxi driver, put it on your dashboard, if you are a musician, put it on your guitar case.

The Result

The average person will have a dream and just accept that it is a dream.

Alternatively, they will borrow a load of cash, buy it even though they can’t afford it, and then regret it for the rest of their lives.

I could complain or sulk that I don’t have this car, I could whittle away the hours dreaming of it, but complaining is like rocking in a rocking chair, it might seem like movement, but it isn’t getting you anywhere.

An entrepreneur will choose to use that dream as motivation, and a rocket up the ass.

You would be amazed at how focused and hard working you will become with this constant reminder.

What’s more, you will value your time higher, so anything that isn’t getting you on the path to your dream will be discarded.

So go find your dream, get specific, and then come back here and let me know what it is.

We can reach it together, and make 2009 the best year yet.

Yes, I have read the secret as well.

I hope they don’t notice you have stolen their ideas and sue your ass off as this could severely dent your chances of achieving your dream :)

Oh, and if focusing on a long-term goal was invented by the author of The Secret, I will officially eat my own arm. ;-)

Well congratulations on discovering the secret without reading the secret

Although it is available in all good book stores – often in the bargain bucket.

There are more secrets to the secret but basically positive thinking and visualising your goal is the key.

For instance I ran out of socks without holes in September so I doodled a pic of some intact socks and attached it to my monitor. Imagine my surprise and delight when on December 25th I received seven pairs!!

    haha,

    I like it.

I have to say though, if I accidentally discovered it, it wasn’t much of a “secret” in the first place.

I probably explained it poorly, but what I was essentially *trying* to say, is that many people (myself included) can look at what they DON’T have, and sulk about it, or feel down, moan etc…

I know, I have been there.

Others, take it and use it as motivation.

This was just an extreme way of doing that.

PS: I could do with some socks as well, goodbye Ferrari, hello socks.

    Hey Dean

I’ve woke up from my dream while others are still asleep dreaming ‘what I want in 2009′.

I love the fact to stress on the importance of visualization. It works like magic. Our subconscious mind is one powerful tool at our disposal that reacts to what we feed it with.

Success in 09 is a state of mind and I’m sure yours is full of that images of Ferrari… ;-) Good luck, Dean.

    In your article you say:

“What’s more, you will value your time higher, so anything that isn’t getting you on the path to your dream will be discarded.”

Does this give me permission to kick my husband out of the house, and quit doing laundry, dishes, paying bills, all that crap seems to keep me from focusing on my dream.

just kidding. Wonderful article and great idea, now I have to figure out what excites me. Wow, I have no clue what my specific dream is.

Ferrari? Damn … My dreams tend to get TOO big. Like a Gulfstream GS550. Hey, I like to travel- OK?! LOL

Might have to lower the dream a bit to a cheap Ferrari or Lambo maybe. heh heh

But realistically, having a 50+% increase in my online income in 2009 would be pretty kool too. ;)

    Have A Safe & Extemely Profitable 2009!

    Teresa,

Why do you need permission to follow your dreams?

If your husband is seriously standing in the way… then kick him out of the house!

Pay someone else to do the laundry and dishes…

Work on your business in your free time instead of watching TV…

Everyone has 24 hours in the day… but we also have the choice of how to spend that time.

Because you can either complain about problems or find solutions. And no one else cares what you choose.

It’s your life… you decide what you want to do with it.

    Good luck!
    Craig
