I dig the video! Funny because I’m just about to push “post” on a blog post that I talk about reviewing my “concept of self” now that I’m 37 years young today. What energizes me is sharing what’s been my supposed weakness & mistakes in the past believe it or not.

I now see motivation as the ability to see an idea through to it’s completion. But inspiration is the ability to allow an idea to get a hold of you and allow it to use you; hence your purpose.

Through my experiences and allowing myself to be vulnerable & shedding light on my shadows I am actually able to shed light on other peoples lives, and this inspires me. So transparency, vulnerability and the ability to articulate those experiences through story’s & tools inspires me!

Good video thanks – surely both are important? I work on being great at strengths and getting weaknesses “good enough” so they don’t sabotage the strengths.

    Cheers,
    Mark

NOTE: THIS IS A REPLY FROM MARTIN COBURN:

Tony, thanks for the reply, inspirational stuff.

Mark, completely agree. you need to fix those things that could potentially derail you, being an air traffic controller with no attention to detail is not good for anyone! Key is build the strengths so they make your weaknesses irrelevant.

Nice video guys. Short and Sweet (that’s what she said:)

It is a challenge mentally I think especially on the web to do the things we love. Most of us probably don’t like learning html, or setting up sites, or maybe posting to social networks etc…

But we drudge through it, even though we could be doing what we love, maybe writing copy, or shooting videos, or thinking up creative stuff and outsource the tedious task for under 10$ an hour.

I think it’s about how you value your time too. Getting the most enjoyment out of each moment of our life and doing what most enriches ourselves and in return others.

    Cheers Guys,
    Brandon

Nice one boys! Good to see you Mr Coburn sharing your wealth of knowledge with the world online…its about time!

What ever you bribed him with Dean…well done.

  7. Comment from BRENDA on :

I love being given “a pass” for focusing my energy towards what I excel at. It’s worth noting that the stuff your not good at is not a weakness. Work smarter not harder and delegate the things you are not good at to a virtual assistant. Wasting time on things you struggle with and not giving your energy to that which you excel at – is costing you time and time is money. Today I wasted time on flikr trying to select pics for my blog and resizing it – it took far tooo much time and I was swearing like a crazy woman.

JUST SAY “NO” to what you are not good at… and that’s what she said!!!!

    Very motivating Dean, very.

Good advice clearly put is hard to find.

Martin Coburn must be a good friend to so concisely state the reality of what we should all be doing. :)

    Everyone should watch this.

    Keep it coming Maestro.

Just started the course, so discovering my DNA, & that includes finding my strengths. Learned all about outsourcing during UPO in Dubai, so that will be where my weaknesses end up (noting that some of my strengths are also some of my weaknesses) … getting far too technical for my own good!!!

  10. Comment from Ardit on :

This is really something I need to do, I can point out all my weaknesses yet when it comes to strengths I actually find it difficult.
Definitely an inspiring video for me, thanks.

This is great advice that is heard a lot in different ways but never really taken on board. I can’t believe I’ve wasted so much time not outsourcing and now I’ve found it the future is looking great.

I can finally focus on my strengths of watching Wang Wang videos eh Dean? ;)

    Good video, guys!
Interestingly, I was just planning to make a video about how I somehow feel that some of my greatest strengths “don’t count”. I think this may be because my strengths are almost all in fields that weren’t graded or weren’t deemed very important in school and I always sucked at the important stuff like maths and chemistry.
I wonder if others have similar experiences?

  13. Comment from Sasha Gilberg on :

well damn, after watching the video and reading the comments above this has put my need to properly outsource into overdrive.

I thought that it would be good to learn how everything in the IM process works first and learn the inside outs before outsourcing, now I finally realize SCREW THAT!

eg. In Tony Robbins recent ‘money masters’ business he created, he didn’t learn html or how to program a shopping cart. He hired people to do those jobs and focused on his strength which is creating content.

I believe that if you truly want to be successful in your IM career you need to look at it as a business and hire people as a necessity, not just a way to save time. That’s what made the money masters launch a success.

Now I don’t remember outsourcing actually being mentioned in the video, so if you want to ban me from leaving anymore comments in the future I understand!

Hi All! Just caught up with this blog. I couldn’t agree more – though we all need to be reminded (and to remind ourselves). I’ve always told my kids that it’s just as important to learn what they DON’T want to do as it is to learn what they DO want: a week or a month spent on work experience when you’re younger doing something you hate is an important learning curve! Find what makes you want to jump out of bed in a morning and you’re on the right track.
