Facebook Dating Applications - Experiment Part 3
In General | 3 comments | permalink
Can the Internet, and in particular Facebook.com be used to pickup girls? What’s more, can the skills I have used in the business and marketing world give me an advantage?
I aim to find the answers to these questions and more, and I will be publishing every sordid little detail here for the world to see. Crash or burn, you can follow it right here.
Part one: Picking up girls with Facebook
Part two: My moral Dilemma
Today I am going to be sharing with you the many dating-based facebook applications, my experiences with them, which to try and which to avoid.
Outsourcing My Dating To India
But first, I want to let you know that I decided against outsourcing my Facebook messaging and dating to India. Many of you told me that you saw no moral issues with doing this, but I later realised that I didn’t fancy giving my Facebook login details to a stranger, afterall, many of my business contacts are in there.
Facebook Dating Applications
Like any good Internet Entrepreneur, I am aware that there are a lot of tools that can make certain tasks easier, quicker and more effective.
Facebook dating should be no different, so I have been putting aside an hour or so each evening to test the many facebook dating applications available…
Below are a few of the Facebook apps I used, my thoughts on each, and a score out of 10.
FaceBook Dating Application 1: Are You Interested?

Dean Says: The first thing I did when choosing apps was to look at the amount of monthly active users. Afterall, you want to ensure that there are a lot of users near to where you live, so, if you go to the Facebook apps page and click the “most active users” tab, it will list all apps by user activity.
You can refine this further by clicking through to the dating section you will see that it lists the amount of active users per month for all applications used for dating on Facebook.
Are You Interested currently has almost 4,5 million, so it was my first choice.
I have used this app more than any of the others, it is quite addictive, so be warned.
As you can see from the image above, it gives you a lot of options, and perhaps most important is the fact that you can search based on both age and location.
TIP: If you want to broaden your search a little, go to settings in the app and change your location to the next nearest major town or city, this will give you a lot of new, hot prospects that you wouldn’t normally see.
So as you can see, you get to see a profile photo, and then you are asked to vote Yes (Anonymous), Yes (Let Them Know) and Skip.
Personally I don’t see the point in using Anonymous for this experiment.
I managed to get through approx 100 people with this, and many of them have sent me winks, messages and even tried adding me as a friend.
I think it is by far the best application I have used for meeting new people, and I give it a 9/10.
FaceBook Dating Application 2: Zoosk

Dean Says: A friend recommended this one to me, and I must say it is also a very useful application. It works pretty much in the same way as Are You Interested, but seems a more lightweight version. It has less than half as many users, but it does seem quicker to use and load, so can be useful if you are short on time.
Another cool thing about this app, and for me, this is the biggest selling point… it allows you to put your postcode (Zip code) into the system, and it finds matches based on that location. This is great if you don’t live in a major city, and it tells you exactly how far you are from that person.
This alone gives you something in common with your targets, and it is a great way to open the conversation.
This app is a must for anyone who doesn’t live in a major city. I give it an 8.5/10
FaceBook Dating Application 3: SpeedDate

SpeedDate say the following: Find dates, romance, love, and friends on SpeedDate! Send messages and try online video speed dating with webcams or chat. Try fast SpeedDate Facebook online dating for matchmaking, online personals, meeting singles, and finding your perfect match!
How it Works
- Send flirt and wink messages to people you like
- Go on lots of live 3-minute dates with IM, video, and audio
- Connect with your matches to get to know them better
Dean Says: I haven’t tested this properly yet, but from what I can tell, it let’s you have a speedDate with another user.
In practice, this is a great idea.
In reality, not so great.
Firstly, the vast, vast majority of us are not going to have the balls to use this properly. Secondly, it seems glitchy and doesn’t generally work very well.
It also has a low rating, so it seems I am not alone in this opinion.
I am sure that for the hardcore amongst you, this could be a great app, but I don’t think it is for me.
My rating: 4/10
Summary
There are a ton of apps out there, and for those of you living in or around a major city, you should have no problems finding plenty of people to try to pickup. Bear in mind however that many apps will be recorded in your live profile… and there is nothing worse than seeing “Dean sent a wink” 50 times in the space of an hour
You can however delete these, and I recommend you set the applications to not update in your feed.
Coming In Part 4 of my Facebook experiment
You now know the background, but what about the juicy stuff? Have I met anyone? Have I made any new friends? What lines and conversational techniques and tricks am I using?
All this and more will be coming in part four of my experiment, where I will be focusing on WHAT to say and how to say it.

Do You Feel the Buzz?
Dean Hunt puts the "buzz" in buzz marketing
..and the "viral" in viral diseases
I’ve used all three and like SpeedDate the best. You wink and flirt with offline people and every so often you get set up with someone online to have an IM chat with for 3 minutes. So much more interactive than the others with no pressure at all. Plus I’ve met more people in person from it. Why wouldn’t people have the balls to use it? Doesn’t make sense to say that, especially if you haven’t tried it!
I dunno man…I’m waiting for the big twist
Rachel,
SpeedDate never really worked properly for me on my laptop, so I didnt get the chance to try it properly.
That said, if it is IM as opposed to webcam, then you are right, it doesn’t require any balls
Thanks,
Dean
