Wow, excellent post and very entertaining. Some very valuable information included too. I especially enjoyed the answer to question six because it is so true. I did the very same when I first started out online. Glad to say I learned from my mistake very quickly.

Hopefully thanks to your words of Wisdom, Dean will be released unharmed, but heck why not drink the beer anyway before he gets back. It's thirsty work, handing out good advice.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Sean,

Stand out from the crowd has pretty much been my mantle online for the past 2 years.

There is so much competition on the net these days that it goes without saying that content will be informative. Anyone can do informative.

And being more informative than everyone else is tiring, boring and rarely worth the hassle.

once you know your subject, you then need to stand out and get noticed.

Heck, what do Killer Bunnies have to do with marketing?

Answer: Zilch, nada, nothing.

But, it gets the site remembered.

Good release Tim!

Re your point: "The key to success is being different and adding some value"

Very true and if I had one tip for 2009 it would be this "For god's sake stand out from the crowd!"

You don't need to be better than the rest to stand out, all you need to be is different.

The internet is becoming BORING. When I say boring I mean that new people are coming on board everyday and are just copying old tactics. Blogs look the same, videos are too formal, stuffy and boring and generally it's all becoming a much of a muchness zzzzzzzzzzzz

But that's good news! If you can have the right approach and draw attention then.....kerching!

Think about your personal brand and how you can step up and stand out from the sea of mediocrity! (I even sound quite posh with that last word!)
