    Hi Dean

I do hope that you have picked up those cards by now!

It is a great idea to follow up on the cards by email. I always add people I want to do business with or those that I feel will be useful contacts to my email address book. By sending a brief message usually encourages these ones to add me to their email address book too.

Keep up the good advice and I look forward to seeing you on the Oprah Winfrey Show!

My dad used to work trade shows for his business and he’d get a stack of cards. He’d then meticulously organize and follow up (then by phone). He said “most people get all hot for doing business at the show but few follow up”

I think business cards are still a good idea, because not everybody has an iPhone where they can go in and add the persons information and then hit them up on Facebook.

BUT they are pointless if the persons just going to leave them on their desk. What I do is get them then go home and add them to my address book online. I add all their info like website, name, phone, and everything else. Then I go and add them on Facebook.

Just because you have a card with someone’s name on it doesn’t mean you know them. You have to get in there and talk or then when you email them for help with something or whatever, they won’t have time for you because you’ve never talked and they don’t know you.

    Good one!
I’ve only been to one event where business cards were handed around. I did follow up with most of them, but hardly anyone answered back. :(

My actual business contacts were almost all slowly built with email communication. If I was more serious about the business-card ones, I’d probably have to be persisent and write some more mails.

What are biz cards but to give folks a way to contact you and know a bit about you. I think if you network a lot offline, such as a Real Estate agent or 007 agent etc… You should have your name and your social media contacts mentioned. Twitter,Facebook, the whole gamut. What a powerful biz card that would be. In fact it would not be a biz card but a personal card.

e.g. “Find out about 007 agent Dean Bond’s latest missions on Facebook and Twitter”

Or seriously, the Power of Connect With Me: followed by your url’s is really powerful stuff.

Good post to get ya thinkin’
