a Confession by Dean Hunt

I have a confession to make…

Over the past few months my writing style has become more salesy, direct, and dare I say… American.

A good friend contacted me the other day and said that he misses the older posts that were often funny, entertaining and from the heart.

So I thought about this and I believe I have found the culprit:

DeanHunt.com has been online for almost one year. What started out as a personal diary to keep track of my business and personal life, has grown into a site that between the months of December 06 and March 07 had over 500,000 UNIQUE visitors.

I have branched out into other areas as well: Copywriting, direct sales, niche marketing, social media promotion, viral marketing etc… and I have shared a beer with some of the Internets leading marketing experts.

It is hard to meet so many gurus without some of their techniques rubbing off on you, but a salesy blog was never my goal. I know the techniques for direct marketing, and I have had success with it. But I never planned on letting those techniques spill into my blog.

So from this day forth I will aim to make my weekly blog posts (every Sunday), and my weekly newsletter (Wednesday or Thursday) have a more personal and laid back tone.

I have never sold anything via this blog, so there is no need for me to use a more “salesy” method of writing.

If I know of something that I genuinly believe will be useful to you, then I will of course mention it, but there will be no sales copy or cheesy marketing techniques.

Instead I will continue to talk from the heart, and use my “wacky” sense of humour to hopefully keep you entertained.

If you have any suggestions or feedback then I would love to hear from you.

Thankyou

PS: My new house in Madrid is finally complete. It has been a long and painful road, but finally we are there. I look forward to inviting you all to a poolside BBQ later this summer. (I am serious)

PPS
: I also look forward to hearing your feedback. I really mean that.

so here’s my feedback: i think your friend is right.
i once started reading your blog because i found it quite interesting. however now i just browse your entries quickly as it often really sounds like an american rip-off ebook (no offense meant)

    cheers

    Thanks Patrick.

I will aim to keep it all from the heart from now on. I hope you will continue reading, and perhaps you can email me in a month to let me know if I have managed to avoid the “American ebook” trap ;-)

    Many thanks,

    Dean

    Phil,

You are certainly a good friend, but you are not the friend in question.

Elena and I were testing the pool today, it was a bit cold, but great fun. We lay in the sun afterwards and drank two bottles of Corona ;-)

It is called CORONITA in Spain. Gosh, how long have you been living in this country?¡?¡¡?

Come on down to town some time and let´s get lunch. After all, when was the last time you had Indian food out there in the pueblo? Or, if you are missing America from your trip to the States, I know the best hamburger joint in the city…

    :-)

ah yes, a nice cold CORONITA :-) I will ALWAYS call it Corona though.

Last time I had a nice Indian meal was three days ago, we found an amazing Indian restaurant.

    The hamburger joint sounds great.

    Speak soon Phil.
