The meals are simply overpriced by a factor of 2. A couple may get just as good a deal from an "ordinary" menu. Difficult, however for people on their own or odd numbers, but one is not forced to use the particular pub. Their profits are from drinks anyway. I avoid some restaurants which now charge £5.50 for a bottle of beer. It's not their fault they just do not have the authority. Although I think you're a bit off-beat with the "hidden charges" ending.
